The eleven-song American version of this compilation was initially conceived to honor the band’s late co-founder Brian Jones in July 1969.
As the first volume of American Big Hits had been published in separate formats, with material from the Aftermath era appearing only in the British edition, the American edition of volume 2 includes hits from the Aftermath period including “Paint It Black”.
