The Plugged Nickel recordings document the Second Great Quintet’s real-time improvisation revolution, welcoming surprise, discarding certainty, and turning “wrong” notes into revelations.
Sony Legacy will reissue a box set of all seven sets from The Complete Plugged Nickel Sessions in January 2026 as the first step in celebrating Miles Davis’ centenary, and will release one of the most impactful complete sets, featuring over an hour of reimagined familiar songs, including classics such as “All Of You” and “My Funny Valentine,” and Miles’ original tracks such as “So What” and “Agitation,” on a double black vinyl LP for Record Store Day’s Black Friday.
