The Strokes have announced their seventh studio album, titled ‘Reality Awaits’.
Marking their first full-length release since 2020’s Grammy-winning The New Abnormal,
The album marks a bold new chapter for the band.
A large part of the record was tracked in Costa Rica under the guidance of legendary producer Rick Rubin.
This meeting suggests a continuation of the spacious, synth-inflected textures found in their previous work, but with a tropical and experimental twist.
Frontman Julian Casablancas delivers some of his most vulnerable and cryptic performances to date, drifting between a sense of impending death and emotional urgency.
The project’s first offering, the single “Going Shopping,” made its live debut at San Francisco’s Warfield ahead of its official digital release.
The Track is a breezy and relaxed departure from their high-energy indie anthems,
which reflects an album obsessed with the concept of “the real” in a digital world of entrepreneurs.
The album cover, designed by Johann Rashid Johann, is based on Richard Prince’s iconic 1989 work *Untitled (Cowboy)* and underscores the pointed commentary on authenticity reflected in the album’s title.
The vinyl comes in a die-cut trifold sleeve, including a 12-panel fold-out insert, and is housed in a polybag.
